Taking Applications

OK, this pope thing is gonna take a lot more work than I figured. I seriously thought I'd have to chuck the damn thing but then it occured to me why should I be doing all the work. The world is full of peasants, so I'm staffing up for this sucker.

I've already filled the position as head of the Swiss Guard. It's some guy I know, Felix something or other. I forget his last name but that's not important. The important thing is that Felix is an actual Swiss person - how cool is that ? You bet !

Felix was a poor yet humble swineherd from some mountain in Swissland. He'd herd them swines up the mountain in the morning and then herd them back down at night just in time for swine milking. Now it's adios to the bucolic* life as one of the simple folk and it's on to the bright lights of VC**.

So, I know people out there are thinking, how can I get a classy job like that with such a classy hat. The answer is simple: join Cap'n Willys pope team. If Felix can do it so can you. Who'd a thought a simple swineherd would ever amount to anything ? Certainly not me. Anyway he heard the "Calling" and ponied up to the table and look where he is today.

Apply now, the time is right.

Runnin' for Pope

Well, the pope is pulling the pin so you know what that means: It's pope runnin' time.

I ran for pope the last time the job came open. I didn't do as well as I thought would, but I have a feeling I have a better shot at getting the pope hat this time around.

I'm starting off my campaign with a snappy new look. I had my buddy frankdog "pope me up" a picture of how I will look when I am elected. Pretty classy let me tell you. I just don't see how I can lose.

The first thing I need is a couple of snappy sayings. I've started already:
  • "The only hope is Billy for pope"
  • "Out of the west, Willy's the best"
  • "Don't be a dope vote the Cap'n for pope"

The second thing I'll need is a platform. I was thinking of using 4x4s,2x4s,2x6s and 1x6s, pressure treated of course. That's an old joke but it shows I got a sense of humour.

The last thing I need to do is make some meaningless promises. I operate on the principle: the bigger the lie the more people will beleive.

Once I'm elected then I'm gonna start redecorating. The first thing I'm going to do is put a bar into the sistine chapel. There won't be any of that holy wine, it's beer and whiskey all around. It goes without saying that babes will run the bar and serve drinks..

I'm starting to get all hyped up about this. I better start packing my bags.

The Cap'ns Kid

O Jeeze.........

Well mates, the old Captain fergot to do something. It seems his daughter graduated high school back in the spring of ot '11 and the Cap'n fergot to blog it.

It was a proud day in the life of the ole Cap'n. Now the Cap'ns not one for sentimentality but it near to brung tears to his old eyes.

Here's a picture of me darlin' daughter in front of the family vehicle. Notice how her dress matches the color of the 'mog ? Me and the kid wanted to go to her prom in the 'mog but the Missus put the Kibosh on that plan real quick.

Better late than never. Here's to you kid.

Cap'n Willy battles the Hoar Bats from Hell

As you know the Cap'n has a small but tastefully appointed retreat on quiet and secluded Lake Tageesh. It's quite appropriately named Chateau du Shaque du Lac.

Several years ago it was invaded by bats. The common name for this species of bat is the Little Brown Bat. The Latin name is Pesticus Rodentia Volancia Infernum. The Cap'n, as a rule, has no aversion to sharing his abode with any number of woodland critter. But, these bats are starting to irk the Cap'n to no end. They are imposing on the Cap'ns good nature. They shit and stink the place up to high heaven.

Never one to shirk his duty, the Cap'n has taken up arms in order to repel the obnxious little pests. By arms the Cap'n means 10 cans of spray foam.

To the battlements me hearties !!!!

Sending down for supplies

A well deserved sit down on the family throne.

The battle is but half finished, one more weekend and the boarders will be locked out.

Fortunately for the Cap'n the little flying rats migrate south for the winter so the Cap'n doesn't have to worry about the fanged freaks suckin' his life's blood out.

Because the Cap'n has a soft side he will be putting up a stupid ass bat house for the furry flying buggers.

Roach-a-rific

I was recently chatting with a friend via email. We were discussing the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yukon, Ryan Leef. Leef is a big fan of mixed martial arts (MMA) and he holds the view that MMA can be used to combat bullying, (checkout this whitehorse star article). I'm not sure how that works, maybe it has something to do with the bullied kid being able to punch out the bully, I dunno.

It seems to me that if we use MMA to combat bullying, wouldn't it make sense to stop unwanted teen pregnancies by making sure teens got plenty of sex ?

When talking about right-wingers and their solutions to problems you inevitably come to the questions: How can people be so stupid as to vote these guys ins ? How come we are not extinct ?

I'm not overly concerned over the fact that human idiocy will eventually result in our demise. In a very real sense we deserve to go extinct.

What bothers me is that we will probably be responsible for the extinction of 90% of the other life forms on this planet.

On the bright side, the roaches wll still be here.

I can see 2000 years down the road: An alien lands on the planet and finds a bunch of cigar smoking roaches that speak with a Brooklyn accent. I suspect the the first thing the roaches will say is something like: "Hey bub, you from outta town?"

First Time for Everything

Well I finally did something I never thought I could ever do.

I managed to start my big air compressor on fire. I have to confess it took a bit of doing but I got the thing to belch smoke like an old Russian tractor.

A gasket went in the compressor head, so the thing would only build up pressure to around 20 psi. I ripped it apart and pulled out the old gasket. I used it as a pattern to make a new gasket. I fitted the new gasket in and put 'er back together again. I fired it up and away it goes. It got over 20 psi, so I figured great she's gonna work. I went in the house for a couple of minutes and when I came back out there's smoke pouring out of the thing like a deranged tornado.

I shut 'er down and waited for it to cool off. I took the head off and the new gasket was toasted real good. I suppose that'll learn me to use cork gasket material for something that gets really hot. I might expect myself to take a lesson away from this, for some reason I doubt I'll learn anything.

The Adventures of Cap'n Willy goes to the North Pole

Howdy folks. It's yer ole pal Cap'n Willy. I bet you thought I was dead. Ha !! Fooled ya. I'm still alive and kickin'.

We just had a 3 day weekend so the ole Cap'n thought he'd make a short trip to the North Pole. It's no problem for the Cap'n 'cause he's got the green snow beast.

As you know the most important thing on any expedition is to be prepared. As you can see the Cap'n is way ahead of the game. I got a stick and plenty 'o beer.

Settin' out on a long adventure requires the right frame of mind. As you can see the Cap'n don't mind gettin' in the right frame neither.

After a day or two the expedition finally reached the Arctic Ocean.

The Cap'n travels on......

And on and on for what seems like an eternity

until he finally arrives at the North Pole. Now, I know what yer thinkin' this ain't no pole it's a rock. Well back in the day (last Saturday) pole was a euphemism for rock. The point is that nothing should diminish this extraordinary accomplishment

But what's this ?? oh no !! Cap'n Willy has foolishly drank all of his supplies !!! how will the Cap'n ever make it back ??

Hurray !! the Cap'n is saved !!! Yes it's true !!! It's the beer store at the end of the rainbow !!!!

Back on the road the Cap'n is A ok for home !

Well friends there you have it, the brave and daring Cap'n made it to the North Pole and back. Stay tuned for further adventures

Pickles, pickles everywhere

Well, Christmas is over and the New Year is upon us. I have a little tip for folks out there.

Never try to flush a jar of pickles down the toilet. I don't mean bread and butter pickles, I mean the regular dills.

What happens is they bung up the toilet when you try to flush it. Then, you have to stick your hand in the biffy and fish the damn things out.

It doesn't end there, oh no. It turns out the pickles are still able to cause problems. Especially if your wife goes to the can at 2:00 am and the toilet overflows.

Sneaky Snake

Most People think that it was St. Patrick who drove the snakes from Ireland. Well they couldn't be more wrong. It was my great great great, etc. uncle Nikolai O'Berezowski.

This is the real story.

Years ago the people of Ireland were plagued by snakes. St. Patrick agreed to rid the island of snakes but when the time came to do the work he couldn't be found. He was drunked up in a bar somewhere.

The people of Ireland were becoming frantic. Then my great great great, etc. uncle Nicky said he would rid the island of snakes. He would take the snakes and settle in Canada but in return he wanted a pot of gold. The deal was struck.

Uncle Nicky took the snakes and settled in north eastern Saskatchewan. The Irish people gave a pot of gold to some vertically challenged people to carry across the ocean to Uncle Nicky. But as it turned out these guys took the gold and absconded with it. Even today these miscreants are running around Ireland hiding their ill gotten treasure.

Even though Uncle Nicky never received his payment he bore no hard feelings. He did not return the snakes.

Today the snakes still roam free around Pelly Saskatchewan and are a huge tourist attraction http://www.pelly.ca/thesnakepit.html .

As long as an O'Berezowski is alive the snakes will not be allowed to return to Ireland.

Stupid ducks

I dunno what it is, maybe sunspots, could be global warming it just beats me.

I've been having these weird dreams again.

In this one I'm a kid, about 15 or 16, and I am going on a trip to what was then the Soviet Union, what is now Russia. Part of the deal is that I have to take this duck with me, it's a mallard duck. It's the winter time and the duck is under the ice in a pond. This duck seems to be doing fine under the ice with no air. In fact, it's swimming around having a great time
I take a tractor and drive it on the ice. The tractor breaks through the ice and splashes into the pond; somehow I end up with the duck in my arms.

hmmmmmm, I wonder what it could mean

Chainsaw Daze

Ok, I live Whitehorse, Yukon. Apparently that's somewhere up north and out in the bush. When you live in places like this, there's this thing about being a "man" and what you have to do to be a "man". One of a the things a "man" has is a big bloody 4X4. Invariably, these things avtually never get out in the bush. They're only used to drive to Tim Horton's. Another of the other things a "man" has is a chainsaw. Yah live in the bush, yah gotta have a saw !!

Now, all of my friends have these fancy Stihls and Huskys. So with all this cash invested in hardware do you thing there's much logging around here ? No way. People use these things to cut firewood out of old burn areas. These guys cut a couple of cords a year and then yeehaw "I'm a man !!"

I was never into this chainsaw shtick, not me, I've got an el cheapo Poulan. The thing has leaked oil since I got, it's ugly and green. Guess what ? It works !! The one thing it does have is a 20" bar. Up here you're lucky if you can find a tree with more than an 8" diameter. I admit it's overkill. All of my buddies have 16" bars on their saws. These guys laugh at me, ha ha ha ha, 'cause I've got this cheesey green saw.

Like with everything else that makes a "man", size does count. That's right boys yuk it up 'cause the laff's on you boys.

I have a dream, again

The other night I had this dream. I dunno I think I gotta quit going to sleep or something.

Anyhoo, I'm driving my truck through the bush backwards. It's the new truck, the '05 F-250 supercab diesel 4X4.

I'm ripping the the sides off the truck box as I'm backing up through the bushes, not to mention I'm crumpling in the tailgate as well. I stop and get out to have a look. As I'm standing there looking at the damage I've done, these 2 hoboes walk up and start telling me what I should do. Now, these are not ordinary bums, these hoboes are your classy type hoboes, with the top hats and canes and spats.

So, just then I start to wake up. A vision of this Mr. Peanut guy from the Planter's peanut jar flashes through my head. You know the guy, the one with the top hat, monocle and cane.

I start to wonder what this means.

Then another thought goes thought my mind "don't eat roasted peanuts" !!

Then it all comes together !!!

I should never eat roasted peanuts and back my truck through the bush at the same time !!!

A good safety tip sez the Cap'n, by gar !!

Enough is Enough

I was home sick the other day. I sat around watching the US news channels. They spent the whole morning following Britney's SUV to the LA County court house for some court appoinment of some kind. Of course, they did this by chopper.

What's this world coming to ?

Is it any wonder terrorists hate the US ? The US is out supporting governments that are unpopular; governments that kill and torture people. On the home front what do we see on the news networks ? Choppers chasing Britney !!! Jeeze Looweeze !!!

I'm gonna go down and buy a couple of bottles of whiskey; then I'm headin up the North Klondike Highway. I'm gonna stick my thumb out and wait for some aliens to pick me up. That's it I'm leavin' this planet.

My Nephew David

My nephew David came up for a visit last week. He's my wife's older brother's oldest kid. He's 21 or so and he's going to university. He was up for 3 days after he finished his summer job and before he starts school again. He's a very nice kid, I suppose he's actually a man but to me he's a kid. He's quiet and polite. He's very bright and has an interesting sense of humour.

My wife started back to work teaching so I took some time off to show him around. I didn't mind 'cause he's a nice kid. But he would drive me C-R-A-Z-Y ! !

I would ask him "Do you want to go to the musem or ride the train ?"

He'd say "Yeah, that'd be ok I guess."

I'd say "No, no, no you have to choose one: musem or train ?"

He'd say "Yeah, whatever."

I'd say "Musem ?"

He'd say "Sure, I guess."

I'd say "Train ?"

He'd say "Uh, yeah ok."

It just drove me crazy. So I finally got an answer out of him. He wanted to go on the train. It was like this for everything. Although by the end of the visit I got him trained up so good and proper so he'd answer me directly.

So we're riding on the train. Dave's sitting on the inside by the window so he can get a better view. I'm sitting beside him. You can walk to the back or front of the rail car and stand on the little platform to get a better view or take a better picture than from inside the car. We're riding along.

Dave says to me "That's a nice view."

I look out the window and and sez "Yep."

He starts looking at me so I look at him and sez "What?"

He says "Well ?"

I says "Well what?"

He says "Well could you please move so I could get out and take a picture ?"

Jee-ee-ee-ze how'm I supposed to know he wants me to move. It's not like I can read minds you know.

The other thing was gettin' him to make conversation.

I'd say "What's your sister doin' ?"

He'd say "Working."

I'd say "How's your mom and dad doin' ?"

He'd say "Fine."

Bloody Blue Hell !! But, at least he didn't mind not talking. We could drive for half an hour and not say anything which was ok.

His ole man is kinda screwy. He phoned while David was there. He wanted to check up on him. He asked how I was doin'. I told I recently found out I had diabetes. I said I was cutting back on the beef and eating more fish. I said I hated fish. He asked why was cutting back on beef. I said well you know there's more omega 3 in fish and blah blah blah blah.

He says "Well, there's plenty of omega 3 in beef. "

I sez "What ? yer full of it !!"

He says "Oh yeah."

I sez " I never heard that."

He says "Oh yeah, in grass fed beef."

Well now here we go. It turns out that there's this one cow in Lower Slobbovia owned by some little old granny lady that pastured on the east side of this one particular mountain that had a slightly higher omega 3 content in it's meat than other beef. That's why beef is high in omega 3. Christ on a raft !!

There were signs. I should have known. When I first started going out with my wife her family was into this weirdness; one her sisters, her brother and her mother were twisting silverware. I don't mean with pliers either. I mean the whoooo-ooooo-oooo stuff like Uri Geller. All that psychic mumbo jumbo. I could have run then but no.
